Ashanti, Ghana Gold Weight, 18th - 19th Century AD Ashanti, Ghana gold weight in the form of a crocodile. Brass, 78 x 3 x 10mm, 62.62G. 18th - 19th Century AD. Scarce. Gold dust was often used in commerce and the Ashanti eventually used weights (all kinds of metals). Many of the weights were formed in the shapes of animals.
